Priest Holmes rushed 20 times for 65 yards. There was a busted play on which he lost 13 yards, so other than that, he had 78 yards on 19 carries, just over 4.0 yards per carry. Not bad, but nothing special against a poor Denver defense. More importantly, Kolby Smith only carried twice for 2 yards, so it appears that Priest is the lone back for now, as opposed to sharing carries with Smith as coach Herm Edwards had suggested.
Still, it is difficult for us to believe that Holmes can finish out the season without losing time due to injury or ineffectiveness. He appeared to slow down as the game wore on.
